Manager, Consumer & Industry Relations

To respond to and assist consumers, members, brokers, various government departments and other industry stakeholders on all aspects of the property & casualty insurance industry through IBC’s Alberta & The North Consumer Information centre. To assist the VP, by conducting research studies, summarize findings, organize internal meetings and attend various government committee meetings and industry events, provide information to media and other projects as assigned for Alberta & The North.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Respond to government and stakeholder inquiries.
- Develop and sustain outstanding member relations in Alberta & The North.
- Maintain outstanding relations with government departments such as Finance and Enterprise, Transportation, Solicitor General and Health & Wellness and other stakeholders in Alberta & The North.
- Sustain a valuable and professional Consumer Information Centre for all Alberta & The North, investigating consumer complaints while acting as a liaison between members and consumers in finding negotiated solutions to, at times, contentious issues.
- Represent the industry on provincial and municipal government committees in a variety of roles.
- Regularly and routinely handle all media inquiries regarding consumer matters.
- Work with stakeholders in identifying areas when IBC can help with education issues and coordinate training sessions, when required.
- Act as liaison for the Alberta Claims Committee.
- Act as a resource for the IBC Alberta & the North Committee, and other IBC committees as required.
- Act as a liaison with the Insurance Brokers Association of Alberta.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 10 or more years of experience in the P&C industry.
- University degree in business administration/marketing/public relations or equivalent business experience.>
- Public speaking skills including media relations.
- Excellent team building and management skills.
- Knowledge of provincial government operations.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated self-direction, judgment, discretion and initiative.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel & PowerPoint.
