An Introduction
Français

The availability and affordability of insurance has been a concern for some consumers. IBC is involved in several projects to review and come up with solutions on the issue of insurance availability and affordability across Canada. One of the most important initiatives was the Atlantic Task Force on Insurance Availability and Affordability.
Formed in February 2005 by IBC’s Atlantic office, this task force developed recommendations to increase insurance availability and affordability for commercial and not-for-profit sectors in Atlantic Canada, and to foster, among these consumers, a greater understanding of the insurance product.

The insurance industry is only one of many stakeholders interested in ensuring long-term solutions to availability and affordability issues. Therefore, the task force brings insurance companies and brokers together with government representatives and insurance consumers from commercial and not-for-profit organizations. All four Atlantic provinces were represented.

The Task Force issued its final report on November 23, 2005.
