Does your vehicle have an electronic immobilizer meeting the requirements of Transport Canada? In September 2007, Canada’s Motor Vehicle Safety Standards began to require that all new light-duty, non-emergency vehicles (cars, vans, light trucks and SUVs) be equipped with an electronic immobilization system that meets either the National Standard of Canada ULC-S338/98 or the European Standard UNECE/97. The standards were amended in December 2007 to allow vehicles without immobilization systems and purchased in the United States to be imported into Canada, on the condition that they be fitted with an after-market immobilization system that conforms to the National Standard of Canada ULC-S338/98. As of the 2008 model year, the following vehicle manufacturers voluntarily disclosed to IBC that they have installed immobilizers meeting the National Standard of Canada ULC-S338/98 as standard equipment.
