Green Analytics and the Ontario Centre for Climate Change Impacts and Adaptation Resources were commissioned by the Insurance Bureau of Canada, with support from Natural Resources Canada, to conduct a study on the economic impacts of climate-related extreme events on communities in Canada.
The focus of the study was threefold:
- To complete a community engagement process to garner support for a climate change impact
analysis and aid in data collection for the study.
- To undertake a case study analysis of the direct and secondary impacts of climate-related extreme
events on community assets and economic activity.
- To develop a Community Impact Analysis Tool (CIAT) that analysts can use to estimate the
impacts of climate-related extreme events in Canadian communities.
The outputs of each of these focus areas are presented in this report as well as in accompanying materials (i.e. the Community Impact Analysis Tool and its How-to Guide).
