​Reporting to the President and CEO, this newly formed role will involve the development and oversight of new products and associated processes. The selected candidate will be required to develop new concepts and approaches, obtain consensus from senior management and formulated an operational foundation to support the approved direction.

 

Job Summary:

 

Take Leadership of developing and implementing the Underwriting Information Plan (UIP).  Work as part of the senior management team, and in collaboration with Industry committees and working groups, to design, develop and implement the UIP. 

Working with management and member companies, take responsibility of establishing information classification, quality, and security characteristics and associated data classification, quality and security, in support of a mandated industry association plan.  Assume leadership of the mandated plan itself, which includes the development and implementation of member access protocols, formats and methodologies.

Manage FA business systems change processes across all operations, and manage and direct resolution of associated issues related to data and information classification, quality, and security, through data identification, collection, storage, access, reporting, and disposal using processes and tools as developed.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • In collaboration with an industry working group and the management team, lead the work to define the scope and design of the Underwriting Information Plan (UIP);
  • Research and develop data governance protocols, including data and information standards related to classification, quality, and security for approval by the Board;
  • Develop and implement approach to data governance protocol management;
  • Act as interim Data Security Officer;
  • Lead any resulting Request for Proposal process and participate in selecting vendor(s);
  • Project manage the development and implementation of the UIP;
  • In collaboration with an industry working group and the management team, lead the work to define the scope and design of any UIP informational output products or access;
  • Lead the ongoing operation of the UIP;
  • Monitor data and information quality and security and assume responsibility for associated risk management;
  • Resolve issues and data reporting problems with members and stakeholders in line with member agreements and the Facility Association Plan of Operation; including the management of escalation issues;
  • Analyze, research, and recommend improvements including innovative approaches to the overall data collection and handling process (including submission formats, standards, processes, data quality tools, documentation, and data access for members and stakeholders) and direct, design and implement approved approaches;
  • Oversee and manage staff in line with the Vision, Mission, and values of the Facility Association;
  • Support the initiation and execution of operational and strategic initiatives as required;

Qualifications:

 

  • University degree in computer science, data engineering, or actuarial science with a focus on data management
  • At least 15 years work experience in the financial services industry in Canada
  • Proven ability in project management
  • Experience in business system change processes
  • Ability to design, develop and apply new data classification, quality and security procedures and methods
  • Ability to multi-task and work well under pressure, including time constraints, negotiations and competing priorities
  • Ability to analyse data and member/ stakeholder issues, and respond with potential solutions
  • Ability to coordinate the resolution of issues
  • Ability to liaise, coordinate and manage  collaborative process with industry stakeholders and other internal departments to achieve the build, and the ongoing operation of the UIP
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with management and other colleagues, industry stakeholders, and government
  • Effective presentation skills
  • Knowledge of outlook, Excel, word Assets:
  • Experience in Property and Casualty insurance in Canada, and experience with large scale Automobile insurance data analysis and/or management would be considered an asset
