Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC) is looking for an experienced and self-motivated Senior Financial Analyst/ Senior Economist to support the needs of the property and casualty (P&C) insurance companies senior finance leaders on issues related to capital, accounting and financial and non-financial regulation policy initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage all aspects of meetings and projects related to capital, accounting and financial regulation policy initiatives affecting P&C insurers
  • Liaise with regulators and industry's senior finance staff to gain a thorough understanding of the capital framework and related regulatory matters, IFRS and other accounting changes and their implications on the industry operations and regulatory requirements
  • Prepare meeting agendas, background papers, briefing notes, commentary and presentations on finance-related issues
  • Prepare industry submissions on matters related to financial and non-financial regulation pertaining to P&C insurers


​Qualifications:

The successful candidate is a self-starter and will have at least 8-10 years of experience in economic or financial analysis and a master's degree in economics/related discipline or an MBA. Insurance industry experience, knowledge and understanding of capital markets, a professional designation in accounting or a CFA designation are considered assets. Some experience in managing projects and leading teams is highly desirable. Must excel in analysis and writing skills. 

In addition, the successful candidate will have demonstrated the following:

  • Sound understanding of economic/financial/accounting theory and methods.
  • Experience in conducting analysis on financial sector issues.
  • Proven ability to gather data, analyze and make recommendations.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and evidence of teamwork.
  • Excellent written, communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Discretion in working with sensitive or proprietary information.
  • Demonstrated self-direction, judgment, discretion and initiative.
  • Effective administrative and organizational skills.
