Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC) congratulates Premier-elect Danielle Smith and the United Conservative Party (UCP) on their election victory. Following the election results, Aaron Sutherland, Vice-President, Western and Pacific, IBC, issued the following statement:

“The UCP has been clear in its desire to reduce the cost of living for Albertans, and that includes developing short-term and long-term solutions to steady and lower auto insurance rates. IBC is keen to begin work right away with the government on a plan to make that happen.

The current pause on auto insurance rate filings is making it more difficult for Albertans to secure the auto insurance they need, while doing nothing to improve the price drivers are paying for coverage. That’s why IBC has put forward a plan that would reduce premiums by as much as $325, on average, cutting red tape and legal costs by giving drivers more choice in their coverage options.

We look forward to working with the new government to make life more affordable for Alberta families and businesses.”
